Krush LA!

Dj_krushIn LA on Saturday night i saw an amazing show at Hollywood's Knitting FactoryDJ Krush, from Japan, was spinning and scratching his vinyl on 2 turntables! Here is what the Knitting Factory says about DJ Krush:

"
Japanese turntablist and producer DJ Krush has been wholly embraced by the global hip-hop world. Releasing material through Sony in Japan, Mo'Wax and Virgin in the U.K., and Axiom, Shadow, and A&M in America, Krush's heady brand of experimental, (largely) instrumental hip-hop has received much love from both the zines and the underground and tradition music media such as Spin and Rolling Stone. Beginning as a bedroom DJ in the mid-Eighties, Krush moved into mobile DJing, backing up rappers, and eventually solo production. Although his Japan-only debut freely mixed elements of R&B and acid jazz with the beefy breakbeat backbone of mid-tempo hip-hop, Krush's work has since tended more toward the abstract, applying heavy effects and sample manipulation to thick, smart breaks, layered, almost ambient textures, and subtle, inventive scratching."

The first act, whom i don't remember their name, was a gansta rap group. Not that exciting to me. Krush did not come on until about 11:30 p.m. and performing until about 1:00 a.m. But, my friend and i had to leave around 12:30 a.m. because he was feeling ill from the pot and i got a headache from it. i don't mind people smoking, whether it's weed, cigarettes, or cigars. It's just that in LA it's illegal to smoke anywhere indoors and the Knitting Factory had very little security and it was a very small venue and no where for the smoke to really go. So, we left a bit frustrated. Oh well, such is life. At least i got to enjoy an hour of Krush!
